Listen and Draw Project

 Listen and Draw Project

I was asked to facilitate and tke part in this project during spring 2020., Initiated by Boom Studios in partnership with The Open House Festival, artists were asked to respond to audio recordings made during OHF’s Seaside Revival events over the past few years. The audio recorded visitors memories of visiting or growing up in Bangor. The other participating creatives were Marianne KennerleyMarie-Therese Davis, Carla Hodgson, Aine McGreeghan, Jenni Robinson and Elaine Mcginn.

Before I came to live in Bangor I had heard it was a ‘fighting town’. My cousin got hit with a tyre iron at a garage which seemed to prove the point. When I finally moved here the fighting part turned out to be wildly exaggerated though not unknown. When I heard Gary Lightbody talking about the dual nature of this seaside town I decided I would explore this aspect. The act of fighting allows for dynamic compositions, which I explored through pen and ink drawings. I finally decided to place a group of young people on the beach just before something kicks off.
