Colour Mixing - A collaborative painting

This workshop focuses on group work and reinforcement of colour theory. Pupils will be introduced to three aspects of colour - Bright, Light and Dull. They will mix specific colours using complimentary colours to re-create a painting by Sir John Lavery, one of Northern Ireland’s most respected painters. Reference will be made to his association with The Glasgow Boys. Pupils will shown how these artists primarily employed a naturalistic palette, including earth tones and muted colours to convey mood and realism in their landscapes. Outcome will be a large-scale, composite image

Duration: Double period block.

Materials: Provided by Arts Creative. This workshop utilises high quality gouache paints as a more eco-friendly alternative to oils or acrylics.
